2019 CT Scanner - Lions Gate Hospital Foundation
A second CT scanner at LGH enabled staff to provide a seamless service for all patients who need it at the time they need it.

Each year, Lions Gate Hospital performs more than 20,000 CT scans. A CT scan is one of the most sophisticated diagnostic tools available in the LGH medical imaging department, but the machinery requires regular maintenance to ensure optimal operation.

During scheduled maintenance, which happens 16 times a year, wait times grew and emergency scanning capacity was severely limited.

As a provincial Level 3 trauma centre and a specialized neurological and stroke centre, these down times created a real burden to our imaging team. They were sometimes forced to send emergency patients across the bridge by ambulance to access a CT scanner at one of Vancouver’s downtown hospitals.

With a second CT scanner, physicians are now able to perform the time-consuming guided procedures on one machine, without having to worry about delays for patients waiting for diagnostic scans.
