Interventional radiologists use real-time moving X-ray images to perform a wide range of minimally-invasive procedures. Using needles or catheters guided through blood vessels and organs, they can reach every area of the body through very small incisions.
Our existing Interventional Radiology suite is more than a decade old and becoming unreliable. We want to ensure that our patients continue to receive efficient and dependable care and have access to the latest advances in interventional radiology. We need to raise $3 million to re-equip the unit. Your gift will be used to re-fit a new suite.
Up to 2,000 patients a year are treated in the Interventional Radiology Suite at LGH. Patients are referred from LGH departments including the ICU, Emergency, Labour & Delivery and the acute care wards. Hundreds of outpatients from across the North Shore also rely on the treatments and services available in the suite.
Procedures performed in the IVR Suite include:
- Chronic pain management injections
- Angioplasty – the opening of narrowed or weak blood vessels
- Spine fracture repair
- Biopsies
- Treatment of tumours
- The insertion of stents, infusion ports, feeding tubes, and dialysis catheters
- Dissolving blood clots
Interventional Radiology has saved thousands of lives and improved the quality of life for countless more. We need your support to raise $3 million to ensure our patients continue to receive efficient and dependable care and have access to the latest advances in interventional radiology. Please give today. Every donation of every size will make a difference.
