Description: Jane Appleby was born in Cheb, Czech Republic in 1964, and her family immigrated to Vancouver in 1969. As a young girl, Appleby always appreciated the natural beauty of the west coast. She first began painting when her father remodeled the windows of the Burnaby home so she could see the beautiful views of the North Shore Mountains and Burrard Inlet. Appleby began by painting landscapes and experimenting with realism and abstraction. Alongside her passion for painting, she followed her father’s advice of perusing a “stable” career and became an X-ray technician. Later, Jane resigned from the hospital and started working with watercolours and photography at the Shadbolt Arts Center. Appleby then started working at an art supply/framing store, Frame Right, and was a member of the Burnaby Artists Guild, where she served as president and show coordinator. She also became a member of The Federation of Canadian Artists and attended Emily Carr University. Today Jane is a beloved Fine Arts instructor and has made contributions to many fundraising events including Big Brothers, Empty Bowls, and L’Arche Greater Vancouver.
