Description: Mark Preston is a multidisciplinary Tlingit artist. He began his studies in a wide range of media, but later narrowed his expertise on silver carving under renowned Gitksan artist Phil Janzé when he attended K’san in Hazelton, BC. He also later took interest in wood carving. Preston’s work recontextualizes Northwest Coast form line shapes and his minimalist all-white motifs symbolize clarity, peacefulness, and open-mindedness; thus many of his works are left untitled and are open to interpretation. Preston’s works are features in private and public collection such as the Yukon Permanent Art Collection.
