Today is Giving Tuesday a global day of generosity in support of charities and non-profit organizations.

Between 9am to 7pm today, local company Valor Gas Fireplaces will match every donation received to help  purchase a much needed second MRI machine for Lions Gate Hospital which will provide better access to patients from the North Shore, Sunshine Coast, Sea-to-Sky communities and the Central Coast.

The existing MRI unit operates 24/7 and performs more than 8,000 exams a year. But this is not enough.

With your support, our Medical Imaging department at LGH hopes to purchase a 3-Tesla MRI. The upgraded technology will allow for faster, clearer scans and the bigger machine will help provide a less stressful experience for patients dealing with claustrophobia.

Currently, 50% of patients who need an MRI have to travel Downtown for an appointment. There is a six-month wait time for non-urgent cases.

We hope we can count on your support. With two machines in operation, more patients will have access to world class imaging closer to home. Tax receipts will be issued by Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.
