The Healing Power of Art Program

On the walls of Lions Gate Hospital, flowers bloom, mountains rise and North Shore landmarks are reimagined through the eyes of local artists. Thanks to the art donation program, known as The Healing Power of Art, the therapeutic environment of the hospital and surrounding facilities have come alive.

Not only does the artwork bring joy, solace and distraction to patients, staff and visitors alike, it has created a unique showcase for artists from across British Columbia as you can see from the list below.

Since 2012 and the first donation by beloved B.C. artist Gordon Smith of his work Lighthouse Park, the collection has grown to more than 1000 works valued $2 million plus.

You can make a difference

Downsizing? Inherited art? Reducing inventory? Your donation of a work of art would be greatly appreciated and your name would appear on a nameplate on the wall next to your gift. We accept original paintings from artists and collectors. Our art committee reviews all submissions for their appropriateness for our healthcare setting. The first step is to send an image of the piece you wish to donate to louise.campbell@vch.ca. If your donation is accepted, a Deed of Gift form is issued and if a tax receipt is desired, an appraisal from a third-party accredited appraiser is required.

Together we can ensure the Healing Power of Art program continues to flourish.
