Paul Myers Tower opening

Announcements

Fast Forward to the Future

With the remarkable support of our donors, who contributed $107 million, we were able to speed up the timeline for the development of this much-needed facility.

The innovations in building design enable the use of the latest medical technology and create a safer and calmer healing environment for patients and their families.

Thanks to further donor support through the Foundation’s $20 million Technology Transformation Campaign the 108 single-patient rooms, eight operating rooms, pre-and-post surgical areas and nursing stations are equipped and furnished with leading-edge medical technology, devices, equipment and furniture.

Equipment purchased includes:

  • Vocera Smartbadges for hands-free communication
  • Integrated bedside monitors
  • Patient tracking wristbands for vulnerable patients
  • Vital signs monitors
  • Personlized display screen
  • Patient management software
  • Equipment tracking

Great attention was focused on creating a therapeutic environment. Inside the tower, a coordinated “Tide-to-Sky” colour scheme complemented with new artwork, has been adopted across the six floors of the building.

Outside, a terrace garden on the 4th floor offers fresh air and mountain views, a courtyard, rehabilitation and quiet spaces, walking loops and outdoor art for staff, patients and visitors alike.

Interior walkways and tunnels connect the new high-tech building to the current acute care tower and The HOpe Centre enabling staff, visitors and patients to move seamlessly between different areas of the hospital.

“Paul Myers’ initial leadership gift of $25M inspired a remarkable community fundraising effort to invest in the future of health care and I would like to extend my heart-felt appreciation to all those who supported the historic $100 million campaign,” says Judy Savage, President and CEO of LGH Foundation. “This is an exciting time for us all to see the new Paul Myers Tower rise from the ground to herald a new era of health care on the North Shore.”

Paul Myers cuts the ribbon to celebrate the opening of the Tower named in his honour.
The eight new operating rooms (ORs) are larger, better equiped and allow more flexibility for different types of surgery.
Plenty of natural light and a design scheme that reflects the nature of the North Shore helps to create a calming therapeutic environment.
Hundreds of donors are commemorated on our unique donor wall on the ground floor of the Tower.
Each of the 108 private rooms have ensuite facilities and are equipped with the latest support and monitoring technology.
The horizontal cedar slats on the interior and exterior of the building were milled from trees that had to be removed from the site before construction began.
Thanks to the amazing rooftop garden, staff, visitors and patients alike can enjoy fresh air and views of the North Shore Mountains.
150 works of art, including paintings, carvings and sculpture blend with the Tide to Sky design theme of the Tower to help create a welcoming, healing space.
