Opportunity to Revitalize Acute Rehab Services
Opportunity to Revitalize Acute Rehab Services
In an ideal world, patients receiving life-saving treatment and surgery, have access to immediate and personalized rehabilitation services in a purpose-built unit.
In the real world, life-enhancing rehab is often delayed leading to longer recovery times and missed opportunities to maximize a patient’s recovery.
Right now, physicians, rehab nurses, speech, occupational and physical therapists at LGH provide support in different locations across the campus. For stroke patients in particular, time is critical. A dedicated unit that allows rehab to start at the bedside would be great news for the 700-plus stroke victims that arrive in the Emergency Department every year.
This is why Lions Gate Hospital Foundation is launching a campaign to build a new inpatient unit that will provide support, not just for stroke patients, but hundreds of patients dealing with a range of neurological disorders and recovering from musculoskeletal injuries and debilitating illness.
Access to immediate rehab care leads to faster recovery and improves long-term outcomes for patients. Many local residents requiring specialized in-patient services have to be transferred to the GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre to get the support they need. Your donations to this campaign will support the development of the first ever dedicated rehab unit at LGH ensuring that they can get the care they need in their home community.
We’ll share more details in our summer newsletter.
