John Stibbard

In Loving Memory

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Stibbard on December 17 following his courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

The eldest of three siblings, John was born in Winnipeg on October 27, 1939, moving to North Vancouver in his teens. From an early age, he had a passion for geography, which he studied at UBC. John turned his interest into a career, opening a retail store in Gastown and later a wholesale business that supplied goods from around the world to retailers across Canada.

An accomplished and enthusiastic sportsman, John especially loved sailing, golf, and skiing, sharing this love with his family. The camaraderie formed through these pursuits also led to many of his longest and dearest friendships. He was a dedicated walker, rarely missing his daily 10,000 steps, and a wonderful cook which so many enjoyed throughout the years.

Above all else, John loved his family, helping when needed, and celebrating their every success. He shared his love of adventure and history through unforgettable travels with his family and friends in Europe, Japan, Australia, and Africa.

John’s engaging smile and infectious laugh will be forever remembered by all who knew him. We take comfort in his life well lived—one filled with love, adventure, family, friendship, and an enduring curiosity about the world.

John is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughter Alison, son John, son-in-law Eric, sister Judy, and grandchildren Adam, Alex, Mitchell, and Mackenzie.

Thank you to the dedicated care team on Cypress Cove at Berkley Care Centre. A Celebration of Life for John will be held at the Stanley Park Pavilion on Saturday, April 18 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Lions Gate Hospital Foundation – Berkley Care Centre.
