Donating appreciated securities—such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds—is one of the most tax-efficient ways to give in Canada. By donating directly to Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, you eliminate capital gains tax and receive a charitable tax credit for the full market value.
How to Make Your Gift
Download our Securities Transfer Form.
Ask your broker to transfer the securities directly to Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.
We will sell the securities and issue a tax receipt based on the closing price on the date received.
Gifts of securities can be made during your lifetime or through your Will, reducing the tax burden on your estate. Most securities are held electronically and can be transferred directly from a brokerage account to the Foundation’s account, after which a charitable tax receipt is issued.
Your gift is exempt from capital gains tax, and you can use the donation tax credit to offset other taxes payable.

Retirement savings like RRSPs, RRIFs, and TFSAs can be among the most heavily taxed assets in your estate. By designating LGHF as a direct beneficiary, you can reduce or eliminate taxes on these funds while creating a vital legacy.
How It Works
Ask your bank or financial institution for a Beneficiary Designation Form.
Name Lions Gate Hospital Foundation as a full or partial beneficiary of your RRSP, RRIF, TFSA, or other registered savings or retirement accounts.
Submit the completed form to your provider.
Benefits of Donating Registered Funds
- Retain full control and access during your lifetime
- Flexible designation that can be updated at any time
- Receive a charitable tax receipt through your estate to help offset taxes owed
- Gifts avoid probate and estate administration fees
- More of your legacy supports local health care rather than going to the government
After your lifetime, the remaining funds are sent directly to LGHF to support outstanding health care for people across the North Shore.

Gifts of property can be made during your lifetime or as part of your estate. Before the Foundation can accept a property gift and issue a charitable tax receipt, we may need a professional, third-party appraisal to confirm the fair market value.
Because these gifts can be complex, we encourage you to contact us early to discuss your plans, any required documentation, and how the gift can best support Lions Gate Hospital. Each property gift is reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure it aligns with the Foundation’s guidelines and capacity.
Your gift can leave a lasting impact on health care in our community while providing potential tax benefits.
